Here we take a look at the most common types of commercial fire alarm available:
Conventional Fire Alarm Systems
With this system, your building is divided up into zones, each containing fire detectors and call points. All of these are wired to a central fire alarm control panel. When alarms are activated, the relevant zone will be clearly indicated on the central panel (usually by a flashing light). This information allows for expedient evacuation and is extremely helpful and efficient for fire fighting services.
Addressable Fire Alarm Systems
This bears many similarities to a conventional system however it offers more advanced technology which means the control panel has the ability to identify exactly which detector or call-point has been triggered, as opposed to a more general zone.
Analogue Addressable Fire Alarm Systems
These can sometimes be referred to as Intelligent Fire Alarm Systems. Analogue Addressable Fire Alarm Systems include sophisticated detectors, each of which is equipped with intelligent technology which is able to measure the environment around it and evaluate whether the perceived trigger is a genuine fire threat. It will assess whether there is the presence of smoke, heat or flames or if the trigger is due to a false alarm or fault in the system.
Wireless Fire Alarm Systems
This is a complete analogue addressable fire alarm system but has the benefit of using secure radio communication to connect with smoke detector sensors and call-points without the use of wires. A common application of a wireless fire alarm system is in a large premises where it might be impractical to install a large amount of wiring.
