At Defensor Life Safety, we believe in supporting our local community and making a difference where it matters most. That’s why we are proud to announce our partnership with The Bridge Homelessness to Hope, a Leicester-based charity dedicated to helping individuals experiencing homelessness. We firmly believe that nobody should be without a home, and this collaboration reflects our commitment to creating a positive impact and supporting those in need in our community. Together, we aim to make a difference, providing support and hope to individuals facing one of the toughest challenges imaginable.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of those supporting The Bridge Homelessness to Hope, their Crowdfunder Campaign has already surpassed its original target of £5,000! Now, The Bridge is working towards a stretch goal of £8,000. Every donation continues to be matched by the Aviva Community Fund, doubling the impact of every contribution. With these additional funds, The Bridge will further enhance their well-being projects, which provide safe spaces for individuals to learn new skills, build confidence, and improve mental health. Together, we can make an even bigger difference for Leicester’s homeless community.

The campaign will run until November 1st—or until the stretch goal is reached—but your support is essential to help them reach this milestone. Every contribution brings us one step closer to changing lives.

Who Are The Bridge – Homelessness to Hope?

The Bridge Homelessness to Hope is a Leicester-based charity committed to offering support and advocacy for individuals over 18 who are experiencing homelessness. Their services extend to those rough sleeping, sofa surfing, or living in temporary or unsuitable accommodation. With a compassionate, Christian-inspired ethos, The Bridge has been a beacon of hope since its founding in 2009.

What began as a simple mission to provide food, drinks, and companionship to the homeless population has grown into a multifaceted support network. Today, The Bridge offers much more than just a hot meal. Their holistic approach treats each individual with dignity, empowering them to choose their paths and access personalised support that addresses their unique challenges. Their services are non-judgmental and strength-based, ensuring every person is allowed to rebuild their life in a way that suits them.

The charity’s day centre provides a safe, welcoming environment where guests can meet basic needs, such as washing clothes, showering, and enjoying a hot meal. Beyond this, The Bridge’s dedicated caseworkers assist with housing applications, benefit claims, and reconnecting guests with essential healthcare providers. They also refer individuals to mental health and well-being support services, providing a critical lifeline to many in the community.

The Heart of The Bridge – Homelessness to Hope

At the centre of The Bridge – Homelessness to Hope is their vibrant and active community hub, known simply as The Hub. This is the charity’s beating heart and the focal point of its work, where a wide variety of services and therapeutic sessions are offered to those in need. These sessions are completely free and open to anyone aged 18 or over, providing a vital lifeline for Leicester’s homeless community. From here, guests can access everything from health services to mental well-being support. For a list of upcoming events and activities at The Hub, click here.

One of the standout programs is The Lighthouse Project, which shines light and provides hope to individuals who have experienced homelessness or are at risk of losing their homes. The project offers both mentoring and group support, giving people the tools they need to build confidence, reduce isolation, and achieve personal goals. The one-to-one mentoring program runs for a minimum of six months, offering face-to-face, phone, or video link support, ensuring individuals have the time and guidance they need to make lasting, meaningful changes in their lives.

Beyond one-on-one mentoring, The Lighthouse Project also hosts a weekly group meeting where participants can continue to receive support while making friends and sharing their experiences. Open to anyone who has previously received help from the program, this community-driven initiative fosters a safe, non-judgmental environment that builds self-esteem, improves mental and physical health, and connects people to practical resources.

The charity’s focus on mental health and well-being is trauma-informed, working from the principle that “the problem is the problem, not the person.” This approach creates a psychologically safe environment where individuals can begin to heal from the past and look forward to a better future.

Finally, The Community Café is the focal point for social interaction. More than just a place to eat, it’s a warm, welcoming space where guests can relax with a hot drink and a nutritious meal prepared by dedicated staff and volunteers. The café doubles as a meeting space for guests and support workers, further enhancing its role as a crucial hub for support and connection. Anyone in need of a hot meal is always welcome at The Community Café.

How Defensor Are Helping and How You Can Get Involved

At Defensor Life Safety, we are committed to supporting The Bridge – Homelessness to Hope in meaningful ways that go beyond financial contributions. One of the key ways we’re helping is by providing pharma donations such as paracetamol, cough medicine, and other essential items. Many of the individuals receiving support at The Bridge are struggling with coughs and colds, and our donations will help ease their discomfort and ensure they can access basic health supplies when they need them most.

In addition to this, we’re also answering the call for pre-loved donations. The Bridge is always in need of clean, gently used items like clothing and household goods. By donating these second-hand items, we’re helping to provide essentials for those in need while also promoting sustainability—an effort that aligns with our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals, which are increasingly important to our clients and community partners.

Wellbeing Projects

We’ve chosen The Bridge – Homelessness to Hope as our charity for the remainder of this year and into next, but this is only the beginning. We believe in long-term, community-driven impact, and we’ll be reviewing our charitable initiatives moving forward to continue supporting causes that matter.

How You Can Get Involved:

  • Contribute Pre-Loved Items: If you have clean, gently used clothing or household goods, these items can make a huge difference to someone in need.
  • Support Financially: Every donation, no matter how small, counts. Thanks to the Aviva Community Fund, your contribution will be matched, doubling its impact.

Your support can help The Bridge make a real difference. Join us in bringing hope and care to Leicester’s homeless population.  Click here to donate.
